The most kits we create and solder employ SMD (Surface Mount Devices, in contrast to Through Hole Devices (THD or THT with s/Devices/Technology/)) parts. SMD soldering is not so different than the THT soldering which is more common to hobbyists. The biggest difference is, that the parts are smaller and instead of applying solder to perpendicular areas, the areas are mostly parralel and directly adjacent. Thus the soldering technique is quite different. In our workshop, we will explain how to solder SMD parts.
The solder we usually use contanis lead and some (mostly weak) acid. Thus each place should be covered with newspaper. When taking a break of cleaning up afterwards, one should wash hands.
